California pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle
There are many reasons why people choose to ride their bike or walk. Whether they are heading to work or just trying to get some exercise, anyone who is familiar with San Francisco knows that there are quite a few pedestrians and bicyclists in the city. If you follow local news regularly, you might have heard about the surprising number of lives that have been claimed by accidents in recent months. As a result, drivers should always be cautious and do everything they can to prevent another pedestrian accident from claiming a life. According to law enforcement officials, a driver could not see an elderly woman in a Fremont crosswalk and struck her. The victim, who has not been identified, died on the scene and was reportedly in very bad condition when responders arrived, which made it difficult for them to look at her. The driver, who cooperated with investigators, will probably not face any charges. Washington Boulevard was shut down as a result of the incident, which took place shortly before 6 a.m. Another elderly woman lost her life after being struck by a car at the same intersection in 2011. Whether someone is hit in a crosswalk or while walking on the side of the road, these incidents can result in serious injuries, fatalities, emotional pain and financial hardship. Unfortunately, pedestrians and bicyclists continue to face a number of threats, such as a negligent or drunk driver and hit-and-run accidents. Anyone who is struggling with these issues could benefit from talking to a legal professional. Source: ABC7 News, “Pedestrian killed in accident in Fremont,” Matt Keller, Mar. 3, 2014
