Driver drives away after hitting pedestrian in San Francisco
If you’re crossing a street in San Francisco, maybe you’re aware of the risks. Maybe you know that a driver might run a red light, or a turning vehicle might barrel through an occupied crosswalk, or maybe a vehicle even hops the curb and hits somebody on the sidewalk. You know the risks, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a right to walk without fear of being struck by a negligent driver. What may be more difficult to envision is being in the midst of the actual physical and financial repercussions that follow a pedestrian accident. Even with injuries that initially appear to be minor, inflammation and other painful ailments can creep up over time, requiring you to miss work or even undergo surgery. Consider a recent hit-and-run pedestrian accident on The Embarcadero. As of Aug. 2, police were still looking for the driver of a white pickup truck that struck a 51-year-old pedestrian. The driver left the scene in the direction of Interstate Highway 80, and the injured man was taken to a hospital. The accident happened just after 5 a.m., but by now there may be little chance of showing whether or not the driver was intoxicated at the time of the collision. The accidents sustained by the victim were apparently thought to be minor, as a news report indicates that he was listed in good condition. When this sort of act of negligence happens and causes injury to innocent parties, they need to be aware of their legal options. It may be possible to recover compensation for medical bills and other expenses that resulted from a crash. In any case, no one wants to be stuck with debts or a reduced paycheck because of another person’s negligent actions.
